New Designers and the Outcome so Far

The recent event, New Designers is considered to be the UK’s most important graduate exhibition. Over 3,500 of the most talented newly graduated designers from across the nation came together making it an event  full of innovation and fresh thinking. I was extremely grateful and proud to be a part of this grandiose platform.

CG Arts and Animation stand nearly won the Best Stand Prise, and received numerous compliments both from professionals and peers ( Thanks to Phil''s and Alan's genius idea for the Zoe trope-themed stand! ).

Me, together with Leo Tsang and Ruben Martins, were noticed by art editor of the Magazine, and shortly received invitation to be a part of showcase section for the next issue. These are the images I've added and  a list of answers .

When producing  something visually exciting within CG , you use a range of techniques of a whole studio:
the production designer’s, modeller’s,  animator’s, director’s and so on.

- What (if any) computer packages do you use?

Photoshop, Maya, Mudbox, Premiere and Aftereffects.

- Who are your dream clients?

My dream clients would trust me to work my magic and allow freedom from briefs.

Whats your dream job?

Positions of visual developer, character designer and eventually art director and director.

- What inspires you?

I’m  inspired by experiences therefore I am trying to visit different places with most interesting people.

Again, many exciting contacts were made during the event, hopefully it won't be long for something to follow.

A Test Toy Design Task for Mcdonald's Happy Meal, Monsters inc Theme

Following New Designers show, I was contacted by The Marketing Store, a company delivering marketing campaigns and toys for McDonalds, various films such as Aardman’s ‘The Pirates’ and many other companies. I was invited to attent an iterview with 4 product designers and mechanical engineers. After good three weeks they informed there was a brief task prepared. I had two weeks of time to create several toy designs for McDonald’s Happy Meal following Monsters inc. theme. After a successfull presentation I contacted shortly that day with an offer to join a 6 weeks internship! Life Drawing at Angel

Yesterday a group of us went to Angel, (a place close to New Designers venue actually) for a life drawing session. It has been a while since I last time did figure drawing, perhaps 4-5  months ago. So I found it extremely enjoyable after such a long break :] Also, to all of our pleasure, we had a really interesting model.

Visual Inspiration : Costume Design 2 and Fashion Illustration

I'm continuing to explore visual inspirations. UCA's fashion design student have directed me to numerous fashion designers, illustrators and so on. I'm showcasing here the ones I found most amazing.

More importantly, these examples are teaching ways of approaching design , creatin stricking costumes, it is helping to open up the mind when I'll be designing Queen of Pixies.

Garret Pugh

Style.com describes Gareth Pugh as the "latest addition to a long tradition of fashion-as-performance-art. Garret Pugh describes his designs as being about the struggle between lightness and darkness."
Pugh's collections are autobiographical rather than referential, and draw inspiration from Britain's extreme club scene. Pugh's trademark is his experimentation with form and volume, nonsensically shaped wearable sculptures distort the human body almost beyond recognition. He uses materials including mink, parachute silk, electrically charged plastics in his clothing.

Hussein Chalayan

chalayan is an internationally regarded fashion designer who is renowned for his innovative use of materials, meticulous pattern cutting and progressive attitude to new technology. He was educated both in Cyprus and London's Central St Martins college of art and design. Chalayan is inspired by architectural theories, science and technology

Issey Miyake , a Japanese fashion designer, known for his technology-driven clothing designs, exhibitions and fragrances.

Kenzo Takada

Japanese fashion designer has always worked towards a multicultural world, a world of colors and beauty, with nature as a vibrant, inexhaustible source of inspiration. Kenzo’s designs are based on values of life, energy, and a deep-rooted equilibrium.

Felicity Brown

An English-born fashion designer. The fashion magazine Vogue Italia noted: Raw yet refined, her design shows the amazing attention for detail and fantastic creative talent that have marked her career to date.

Another advice from fashion design student was to look at equally amazing and inspiring works of fashion illustrators. I was also looking for ways how designers comunicate their ideas. Often the drawings are not as descriptive, but rather boldly convey the feel of the costume. These is the handfull of fashion illustrators whose drawings didn't lack of character itself:
